Week 4 Reflection
DATA, MEASURE, AND GROUPWORK.

The workshop this week didn’t involved with too many technical practice as much as before, but still quite interesting! The target for this week is sort of like creating a project proposal from zero.
I was so panic when I heard it’s a group work. I mean I like communicating with others to be honestly, because it can bring me some new ideas, and made me feel like linked with others, which is very beneficial to my own emotion and academic work. It’s just I don’t know how to start a conversation. Besides I arrived here one week later, so many classmates already got their friends. I kept thinking “programming is an individual work” and survived like 2 weeks, and I knew it’s time to face the reality, nothing you can truly finished it in isolated status.
Fortunately, my new group member started the conversation first, and which already overcame the most difficult part for me. And then is my favorite part, which is brain storming. Because I can just throw out everything in my minds without any responsibility, and consideration of practical or not. We came out with many fantastic ideas, and set our team’s name as “sad Monday” (It should be happier Sunday actually, kind of regret.)
After choosing the scenario 1 which position as student organization, we started to narrow down to a specific one target, to apply its number as relatively best measure of students’ experience in campus. We needed to choose from, hours of staying in campus, time of finishing the coursework, things bought in COOP, part-time job and some other types of data, find only one which can be representative. After discussion, we focus on the foods, which is necessary for everyone every day.
But find a data to measure the foods quality, or how many people like what kind of foods, how they feel about it is the most important and difficult part. The measuring way we founded at the beginning is not that easy to collected, so we changed it over and over again. We planned to calculated the average number lecture rooms around one cafeteria first, and realized that is too hard to apply, and data collecting would be difficult too. And then we moved towards to the questionnaire, and turns out we don’t have too much time to collect the raw data. Finally, we decided to focus on the menu, prices and the rating on platform, which is easy access, easy collect, practical even for next steps (data visualization).
For values and variable part, I feel like I must be learnt it somewhere else before but I don’t remember, and I already forgot everything about it. Anyway, I need to learn it again to figure out what it actually means.
Comment from Aimo: I guess she is still working out the rest part (about the group work, and variable, I will update it later.
